Sewing Rolls, Needle Rolls and Huswifs
150 Years of History and Tradition
Dawn Cook Ronningen
Description
Dawn Cook Ronningen is a historian and collector of hand sewing and embroidery tools based in the US. Her book is a visual feast, exploring a diverse collection of sewing roll, needle rolls and huswifs (small hand-made textile sewing kits) from 1780–1900.
Examples include a variety of materials and techniques from rare 18th century embroidery to unusual one-of-a-kind textile examples. The pages are filled with history, vivid high-resolution photography and detailed descriptions. In many cases, the detailed photos are larger than the actual antique example.
Note that this is not a pattern book with projects, but a fascinating and detailed study of these historical sewing items.
